The Animal almost seems like an old friend now that we have already tested two previous versions (DC07 and DC14). The Animal seems to simply glide along, regardless of whether you are vacuuming on a hard or soft surface. The basic core and performance of the vacuum is really no different from the DC15 All Floors model. The large debris pickup system appears to work just great on both models. The vacuum can now pickup large debris (big crumbs, leaves, particles of dirt) without flinching. This usually wasn't a problem even before the introduction of the large debris system, but in the long run it'll probably help keep the standard air pipe from getting clogged with large debris.
We used the mini turbine head extensively on furniture upholstery, and as usual it did an amazing job. It lifts fine cat fur off upholstery like no other tool we have seen. Of course, it helps that the device is back by the most powerful suction you can get in a vacuum. This one tool is nearly an absolute necessity for pet owners.
The DC15 Animal Mini Turbine Head
We also used the telescope reach tool to clean the stairs and drapes. As always, it did a really good job at removing dirt and dust where you normally cannot reach it. At 37 feet long you really can drag the device almost anywhere you need it.
It is our opinion that the DC15 Animal is probably the best deal among all DC15 models. Both the DC15 Full Kit and Total Clean also come with the mini turbine head attachment, but only the Animal has the carpet cleaning kit (which actually works) and low reach floor tool. You will not find these two extras with any other DC14 vacuum. The Animal is probably the best choice for pet owners with carpeting, as the carpet cleaning kit and mini turbine head are perfectly suited for household plagued with pet hair.
