The DC15 Animal is the second vacuum of the DC15 "the ball" series of dyson vacuum cleaners. The DC15 is called appropriately called "the ball" because the vacuum actually utilizes a ball to turn and maneuver rather than the wheels found on traditional vacuums. In fact, the vacuum motor is actually located inside the ball, keeping the center of gravity low. Dyson claims that this allows the vacuum to twist and turn like no other vacuum, effectively navigating around furniture and in tight spaces.
The Animal has consistently been dysons best selling vacuum model. It contains three very useful tools and add-ons: the mini turbine head (used to pick up pet hair), the low reach floor tool, and the carpet cleaning kit. In addition, like all DC15 model vacuums, the Animal also comes with a large debris pickup system, a lifetime HEPA air filter, and the telescope reach system. Overall, the DC15 Animal is a very well rounded dyson vacuum cleaner, and there is little wonder it sells so well.
The animal is also a favorite among nearly all pet owners largely because of the mini turbine head. The tools is specially designed to brush up and remove even the finest pet hair from carpeting and furniture upholstery (think about all the pet hair that accumulates on the sofa).
The DC15 Animal comes in the purple and gray color scheme typical of the DC07 and DC14 versions. Like all dyson vacuums, it was a bit time consuming to put together out of the box, but it is always well worth the effort. The exterior of the vacuum is much more durable than it may at first seem; the plastic is the same material used in the production of crash helmets.
Despite some significant changes in design, the DC15 Animal is nearly the same size and weight as the previous DC07/DC14 models. Its dimensions are 44.09"H x 13.66"W x 11.41"D. Also, the vacuum weighs 19.95 pounds (a little heavier than the DC14) and is powered by a standard 10 amp motor (2 amps less than the DC14). The telescope reach is about 37 feet long, but can be stretched to reach over 50 feet.
