Review of the Dyson DC14 Total Clean cont.

After having purchased the vacuum from Sam's, we tested it on four surfaces: hardwood flooring, carpet, bed mattress, and area rug. First, on the hardwood flooring, it did a fine job. This is not a surprise, however, as all dyson vacuums we've tested have performed quite well on hardwood. Remember to make use of the brush control, which allows you to turn off the brush bar, thus protecting delicate flooring. Turning off the brush probably also helps keep debris on hard surfaces from being flung around and away from the vacuum (as is the case with many other vacuums).
On carpet the dyson really shines. The Total Clean model did a predictably good job on our carpeting, getting up whatever dust had settled since our last run through with a vacuum. The standard telescope reach allowed us to get into tight corners, and even vacuum on top of low hanging ceiling fan. The bed mattress tool is really a nice addition. It's designed to get under the mattress where plenty of dust had accumulated. The tool is nice and then, so it easily fits underneath most furniture as well.

We tested the DC14 Total Clean vacuum on several occasions over a period of time, and construction of the vacuum is quite solid. Although the plastic exterior may appear easily breakable, we have found it to be both sturdy and durable. Like any vacuum, you can expect to accumulate scratches, but with the dyson there's very little risk of any major damage from regular usage.
The DC14 Total Clean is certainly one of the finest dyson vacuums we have yet tested. It doesn't have every attachment you could want, but the mattress tool is certainly a nice addition. This plus the extra stiff bristle brush sets the vacuum apart from any previous dysons in the DC07 line-up. For those who need extra attachments like the low reach floor tool or flexi Crevice tool, however, you want to consider the DC14 Complete, which has the mattress tool plus just about all the others.
