Review of the Dyson DC14 Full Gear cont.
Retail Price: $549
We attempted to test the Full Gear in the same way as we tested the animal. The first thing we used is the mini turbine head to remove cat fur that had accumulated on a sofa and a couple of chairs. It's been over a month since we tested the DC14 Animal, so we had plenty of pet hair to work with. The mini turbine head, which is exactly the same one that comes with the animal, once again did an amazing job removing fine pet hair. Most other vacuums have a difficult time getting pet hair off of furniture surfaces. The combination of dyson suction power and the powerful turbine brush is enough to get the job done.
We also had a good time using the low reach floor tool to get under the sofa, and the carpet cleaning kit to lift out stains that had appeared within the last month or so. If you have pets, you know all too well how easily carpeting can get dirty. The carpet cleaning kit (with both a powder and liquid) is really quite good at lifting out oil and dirt stains.
The DC14 Full Gear Mini Turbine Head
The 17-foot hose with a reversible, extension-wand handle (found all all dyson vacuum models) is great to have. Yet, this too requires some muscle to work with, as the elasticity of the cord (at least at first) is quite powerful. Finally, emptying the vacuum wasn't a problem at all; you simply take out the dust canister and dump the contents into the trash can. Be sure, however, to briefly inspect the area between the rubber seal and canister rim, as dust may get trapped there on occasion.
Like the DC14 Animal, the DC14 Full Gear is absolutely wonderful at cleaning up pet hair. The only differences between the two models is the color scheme and warranty. Though we've had very few durability issues, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go ahead and get the extra warranty that the Full Gear offers, especially if you have multiple pets and will use your vacuum very often.
From Dyson:
Features and Benefits: Brush control: Brushbar turns off to protect rugs and delicate floors. The only quick-draw hose: Just press the catch and the 17ft hose is ready to use - no awkward parts to assemble, reaches to the top of the stairs, cleans under low furniture, doesn't pull the machine over. Telescope reach: No awkward parts to assemble for high-reach cleaning. Instant stair cleaning: Wand expands 17 ft. at the touch of a button. Wide channel for large pieces: Picks up bigger pieces that others can leave behind. Easy to carry ergonomic design: Low handle feels lighter to carry. Hygienic and quick to empty: No need to touch the dust - just pull the trigger. No extra costs, no bags or filters to buy: The pre-motor filter removes particles down to 0.1 micron and is washable. The post-motor electrostatic filter traps harmful carbon emissions from the motor. This filter never needs replacing. Lifetime HEPA filter: Lifetime HEPA filtration for cleaner expelled air. High velocity airflow tools: The intake nozzles of the DC14 tools direct high velocity airflow down into the carpet pile. This has two main advantages: you pick up more because the directional force of the air agitates and dislodges dust, the airflow is continuous even when vacuuming curtains or upholstery preventing them from becoming stuck to the cleaner. Auto carpet-height adjustment: Maintains constant contact with the floor to maximize dust pick-up. Clear bin: This has 4 clear advantages: you can see how well the Dyson works, there are no bags to buy, you can always tell when it's full, it is easy to empty. Edge cleaning whiskers: DC14's suction is channelled right to the edges of the cleaner head, unlike many uprights. Its specially-designed whiskers, angled to reach down between the skirting board and the floor, flick the dust from the edge into the airflow.
