Review of the Dyson DC07 Full Gear

Retail Price: $499

The dyson DC07 Full Gear is essentially the same vacuum as the DC07 Animal. The only difference between the two is color (the full gear is typically green and purple while the animal is purple and gray), and warranty coverage (the full gear comes with an extra year of full warranty and 3 years of limited warranty).

Like the DC07 Animal, the Full Gear comes with some very useful extra features: a low reach floor tool (also found on the DC07 Low Reach), the animal turbo tool (specially designed at removing pet hair), and a carpet care kit containing Zorb powder to absorb dirt and Dysolv spray to remove grease, food and soil.

The Dyson DC07 Full Gear model is the same size as the earlier All Floors model at 46.1" tall, 14.0" wide, and 13.4" from front to back. The base weight of the vacuum is also approximately 19 pounds. This would be considerable weight if the vacuum didn't maneuver so well. Finally, the vacuum is driven by a standard 12-amp motor.

It is not the number of amps, however, that determines how powerful this particular vacuum is. Like all dyson vacuums, the secret to its outstanding suction power lies in the patented dyson Cyclone air path design. A specially designed chamber with eight separate compartments that create 100,000 g of centrifugal force. All of the dirt and dust you have just vacuumed up gets thrown out of the air and towards the sides of the compartments, where they end up in the vacuum's 1-gallon collection canister. Because the air path remains unobstructed by the incoming debris, the vacuum is able to maintain 270 air watts of powerful, consistent suction. In the end, this translates into more undesirable material being lifted out of your carpet and into the vacuum canister.

For those who suffer from in-door allergies, you will be pleased to know that the DC07 Full Gear also comes with a 412 square inch HEPA filter. The HEPA filter is specifically designed to filter out microscopic particulates and allergens that the regular filtration system may miss. The filter is made to be durable, and should last as long as the vacuum itself.

Because the DC07 Full Gear is essentially the exact same vacuum as the DC07 Animal, we did not bother to run through an actual test with this vacuum. It's performance should be equal to that of the Animal. Which model you choose to buy will depend largely upon whether or not you want to pay for the one year of extra warranty. From our experience with these vacuums, however, we feel it is unlikely that anything major will go wrong with the vacuum within the space of two years. The plastic material from which the vacuums are largely constructed is quite durable, and is the same used in crash test helmets. We recommend you take a look at our full review of the DC07 Animal before purchasing either vacuum.
