Review of the Dyson DC07 All Floors cont.

Retail Price: $399

As the name implies, the dyson DC07 All Floors did quite well on both carpeted and solid (in this case, wooden) surfaces. It was almost fun to watch all of the dust and debris being sucked off of the floor, swirled around in the chambers, and finally deposited into the collection bin. The sheer suction power of the vacuum is most impressive. It was able to remove a considerable amount of dust that our comparison vacuum (a Eureka Maxima) left behind.

The most impressive part was the DC07's ability to effectively clean a hardwood floor. Most other vacuums have a tendency to scatter as much material on a hard surface as they pick up. The dyson, however, was able to remove material before it had a chance to fly off to the sides. Also, a really nice addition is the vacuum nozzle, which automatically adjusts to changes in carpet height. No more bending over to mess with the height switch.

The downsides? The vacuum tends to be so heavy and so powerful that it does actually take some muscle to move around. And after a while, it may put some strain on your wrist and elbow. It's power is also a problem around area rugs, which tend to get pulled up by the vacuum, especially around the edges.

The 17-foot hose with a reversible, extension-wand handle is a great addition. Yet, this too requires some muscle to work with, as the elasticity of the cord (at least at first) is quite powerful. Finally, emptying the vacuum wasn't a problem at all; you simply take out the dust canister and dump the contents into the trash can. Be sure, however, to briefly inspect the area between the rubber seal and canister rim, as dust may get trapped there on occasion.

The DCO7 All Floors is the irrefutable classic of the dyson vacuum series. With onboard accessories that include a crevice tool, a dusting brush, and an upholstery attachment, you should have almost everything you need to clean you home like it has never been cleaned before. The DC07 has the suction power, great style, and helpful features that make it worth its rather high market price. After having performed very well on all our tests, it should be given your serious consideration. If you need a great vacuum for both carpeted and hardwood floors, this is probably the one for you.
